Amazing Book
This is the best programming book I have ever read. 1600 of pages of intelligent descriptions and code examples. First you learn the VB.NET language, then you dive into chapters that cover a specific realms like Attributes, Threading, Win32, ADO.NET, ASP.NET, and alot more.

As big as the book is, it does not cover everything and I dont think any book could. Hopefully the author comes up with a volumn II book that covers Network classes, Remoting, and more.

Note that this book is not for the faint, I would recommend reading a beginners VB.NET book. If you have VB6 experience then you will adjust real quickly because this book highlights the differences in comparison to VB.NET. In fact there are alot of VB6 examples side-by-side w/ VB.NET examples. As a bonus the book comes with a cd that contains Franscesco's VB 6 book. There will be many times the VB.NET book will point you to a chapter in that VB 6 book.

The VB.NET book for intermediate-level developers.
I've just completed reading this book, reading about 5 hours a week for the last 4 months.

This is a great book. It has both a wide scope and substantial depth. It should take the reader's level of awareness/competence of VB.NET from level 3 to 7 (on scale of 1 to 10).

This book is easy to read, it provides many useful code examples to illustrate the concepts being discussed, and additionally Francesco has a welcomed habit of adding excellent tips as side points.

It is primarily a tutorial that can be used as a reference source later.

The book does make several references to VB6. However because of the clever writing/editing, it was not necessary for me to refer to the VB6 CD at any time.

This book should be useful to intermediate-level developers any programming language.

I would like to thank Francesco for what he has done.

Best book on VB.NET that I know of. This book will not be all things to all people. If you are a complete beginner, start with a step-by-step book, then get this one. If you are advance, you WILL learn some valuable info and techniques from this book, but it is not primarily an advanced book. Balena's writing raises the bar!
