An outstanding and very productive DBA guidebook!
I am a DBA Manager and have purchased and read this book with much satisfaction. The book has been thought out and reads very well. The use of bullets throughout the book allows my DBAs to get to the information quickly without fumbly through alot of text. I am excited about the chapters that go beyond understanding SQL Server technology (which the book does a great job going ove: Backups and Restores, OLTP, Capacity Planning, OLAP, and much more) and help a DBA understand and better themselves in their role. I am talking about the Data Modeling, Technical Writing, Verbal/oral communication chapters. The chapters in the book that go over Oracle and Sybase Databases migrations to SQL Server have helped us tremendously during our Oracle to SQL Server Data Warehouse projects. The included CDROM is exceptional. I have not seen any CDROM like this included in any books before. It is a CDROM that my DBAs access and use on a daily basis. It helps many DBA support documents (for inventorying servers, creating a backup and disaster recovery plan, drawings that define SQL Server hardware configurations for Database servers, and much more) that have assisted me in my daily tasks. I have purchased 5 additional copies for each DBA on my team and will suggest this to other SQL Server DBA Managers.I can definitely tell that this book was written by a DBA who has much interest in his work and the SQL Server DBA role. I highly recommend purchasing this book!!

A must for all SQL SERVER DBAs!!!
The book is extremely informative with respect to the SQL Server DBA role as a whole, not just the technology aspect of it. The included CDROM is quite unique and different from many technical books, it is actually useful!! It contains DBA support documents in a template format that are extrodinarily productive and informative. I was able to create my SQL Server DBA shop operations manual from this CD. The SQL Server DBA needs to be a well rounded individual in todays corporate environment, having not only the technical skills but also effective business processing, data modeling, technical writing, and communication skills. The book goes over all these. I have bought a copy for each of my DBAs in the shop and we are setting up training sessions from the book. I recommend this book to all DBAs, managers, tech leads and any one else who wants a complete definition of the SQL Server DBA role.

Best book for my new DBA role!
This book has given me what I needed for the SQL Server DBA position I have been tasked with to perform. The book goes over many aspects(Hardware, Windows OS administration, Data modeling, technical writing, SQL Server Technology, and much more)of the DBA role that are required to become proficient in to be successful as a DBA. The CDROM is for once a useful CD that can be used by a DBA on a every day basis with respect to the scripts and documents that are on the CD. It is a great book that is well written and you can tell it comes from a DBA who is active in the field and has experience. I would recommend this book for all to buy
